Chemical Engineering, Universidad San Francisco de Quito (Magna Cum Laude) · University Chemistry Professor

I started enjoying chemistry at school, when I helped classmates with the topics they found hardest. I'm Daniela. I graduated magna cum laude in Chemical Engineering from Universidad San Francisco de Quito, where I now teach chemistry full time. I want students to stop being afraid of the subject and understand how it applies to everyday life.

Tutoring Experience

I have about twelve years of experience teaching and tutoring university students and secondary school students aged 15 to 17, including chemistry classes in English. Since 2019 I have been a full-time professor at USFQ, where I lead problem-solving sessions and lab courses. I also tutor students one to one, online and in person. Many students struggle because of gaps in the basics: it becomes harder to understand new topics, read a question correctly and choose the right equation. One of my students got a D on her first university chemistry exam and finished the course with a high B.

Tutoring Approach

We solve problems together, step by step. As we work, I ask questions to find the gaps and review the concepts behind them. Students learn a clear method: read the question, find the information they need and choose the right equation by understanding what each variable means and how the units relate. I connect chemistry to everyday life and ask students to explain their reasoning, so they can solve new problems on their own. If your child needs help with IB Chemistry at SL or HL, I'd like to meet them.
